Byrnes High school girls varsity team, was selected to the All Tournament Team at the recent Lady Rebel Invitational soccer tournament. Teams particpating included: Greenville High, Hillcrest, TL Hanna, Hilton Head, Ft. Mill, Aiken, and Wren. Congratulations Bethany!!!! 4/6/03 The U10 Sharks concluded their Spring Season with a fine showing at the BILO/Kraft Spring Challenge Tournament. The boys were slow out of the gates with a tough defeat against the GCCSA Cobras (eventual Champions) by a score of 7 - 1. However, the boys rebounded with a 2 - 1 victory over Spartan FC even though the boys weren't playing to their ability. Nicholas Peter tallied both scores with one of them coming from beyond the midfield line. Then in the final game of the weekend the boys played outstanding and won a hard fought game by a score of 1 - 0 over the CSC North Wizards. The lone goal was scored on a beautiful corner kick by Michael Cash that found the back of the net thanks to a mid-air volley off the foot of Brent Ayers. Matthew Peter and Joseph Painter played exceptionally in goal to preserve the shut out.
Members of the team are: Brent Ayers, Daniel Bell, Scott Brant, Michael Cash, Brandon Lee, Malcolm McMillan, Joseph Painter, Matthew Peter, Nicholas Peter and Gabe Townsend. The Sharks are coached by Ed Ayers and Hamp Painter. 3/29/03 The U-12 Jedi’s dueled to a 1-1 tie with the Palmetto Vipers for the final game of regular season play. Heads-up aggressive play at midfield in a very fast moving game by team captains Alex Vallance and Stewart Hay. Multiple breakaways on offense by the lightning-fast Ryan Cook failed to get past the Vipers goalkeeper. First goal of the game came on a blistering direct free kick by Clay Hartwell. Impressive offensive play by Craig Huffman found the back of the net on a header only to be called back for offsides. Injured in the frenzy to try to get the ball in the net, was Michael Kirkpatrick who returned to the game at midfield late in the second half. Keeping the Jedi’s in contention was brilliant play by goalkeeper Josh Blodgett, with 4 saves, yielding only the equalizer goal on a Vipers header in the first half. 3/22/03 U13 Boys Santos, had a very successful trip to the highly ranked Jefferson Cup Tournament in Richmond, VA this weekend. Their first game was against the PDA Socrates (#1 on a number of National Ranking websites) and they lost a hard fought game 1 - 0. The second game matched them against the Maryland State Champion Montgomery SC Dragons (MSC) and they played to a 1 - 1 tie. The Santos and MSC ended up in a tie in their bracket and needed a shoot out to determine who would advance to play in the second place game against the Ohio FC Fire (Ohio State Champions) from the other bracket. Mitchell Allen, Andrew Autencio and Matthew Finley each made their PK's and Ian Rose stopped the first three PK's from MSC for the victory. In the final game of the weekend an outstanding goal from Michael Sanom and a huge effort from the rest of the Santos secured a 1 - 0 victory over the Ohio FC Fire. 3/11/03 The U-12 Jedi’s
drop a heart wrenching night game under the lights to the TCSC Explosion
1-0. The Jedi’s were in top form following a grueling schedule of 5
games in 11 days without a practice in between. They dominated the field
for 55 minutes of play, passing and working together better than they
had all season, but simply could not find the back of the net. Expertly
executed free kicks by Ryan Cook, Clay Hartwell and Craig Huffman were
just wide of the mark. Fearless defensive efforts by Luke Fowler and
team captain Thomas Conits were noteworthy. Excellent play by Stewart
Hay at both defense and midfield. Haley Templer (U15 Stealth), a Freshman at Riverside High School, scored in overtime to lift Riverside over Dorman High School 1 - 0. Congratulations to Haley and the Riverside team. There are a number of St. Giles United Boys and Girls playing for local High Schools. Attend some of these games in your St. Giles United colors and show them your support. 3/8/03 The U-12 Jedi’s lose a heart breaking game 3-2 to the SGU Jetstorm in the final minutes. Alex Vallance scores in the 16th minute, finding the back of the net from a well played cross by Kevin Huffman. An unassisted goal on a wicked shot by team captain Kenny Grant put the Jedi’s ahead momentarily. A valiant defensive effort by Ben Powers and team captain Mike Quint was impressive, but not enough to hold off the persistent Jetstorm. 3/4/03 The U-12 Jedi’s
log an impressive win over a much larger GE Mighty Eagles team 1-0. Key
to the shutout victory was goalkeeping performance by team captain Josh
Blodgett with 4 saves and team captain Anthony Faso with 2 saves.
Outstanding efforts at midfield by Michael Kirkpatrick and at center
defense by Mike Quint. Finally, Kenny Grant secured the shutout victory
for the Jedi’s on a breakaway unassisted goal. After 2 weeks of rainouts
U-12 Jedi’s lose a very close 3-2 match to GFC Vipers. Jedi’s
scored early in the 5th minute by team captain Craig Huffman on an
assist from midfielder Spence Epley. Excellent play at midfield by team
captain Clay Hartwell, at defense by Morgan Kallman, and a complete game
with 2 saves logged by goalkeeper Josh Blodgett. Final goal came in the
59th minute on an awesome cross by Kevin Huffman to Alex Vallance who
was waiting in front of the goal to put it away. Muddiest Jedi award
shared by Ryan Cook and Josh Blodgett. U13 Boys Santos were crowned champions this past weekend at the rain shortened Concorde Challenge Cup. The Santos defeated Norcross Fury Gold 3 - 0, United Quest '89 White 7 - 0 and Concorde Silver 2 - 0. Members of the team are: Mitchell Allen, Andrew Autenzio, Austin Baker, Will Callaway, Nicholaus Castro, Sean Eads, Michael Essman, Matthew Finley, Camilo Gonzalez, Chuck King, Aaron Kohl, Chris McDonough, Aaron Peter, Stewart Robinson, Ian Rose and Michael Sanom. The Santos are coached by Carlos Osorio. 2/21/03 U10 Boys Sharks staged a "come-from-behind" 3 - 2 victory Friday night to remain undefeated in the in house Recreation program. Members of the team are: Brent Ayers, Daniel Bell, Scott Brant, Michael Cash, Brandon Lee, Malcolm McMillan, Joseph Painter, Matthew Peter, Nicholas Peter and Gabe Townsend. Opened the spring season with a very exciting last minute win over Palmetto Vipers who were traveling from Belton for their very first game against a St. Giles team. 3 saves in goal by Josh Blodgett, 2 goals scored by Craig Huffman. 1 goal scored by team captain Kevin Huffman and the final game winning goal in the 59th minute by team captain Spence Epley. Assists came from Ryan Cook, Anthony Faso and Kevin Huffman. Well done Jedi's, we're proud of you! ----- U10 Boys Sharks from our in house Recreation Program started off the season with a well played 6 - 2 victory. The boys must have been practicing during the off season as they were passing and shooting in mid-season form. Coach Ayers and Coach Painter are expecting another successful season.
