From the I-85/Pelham Road Exit (#54) you would head east away from I-85 to your first traffic light. There is a Burger King on your left and a Fire House on your right. Take a left on to Boland Court. Our office is located on the right hand side in the middle of a strip of other businesses. With an eye to the future, the St. Giles United Soccer Club purchased 42 acres on Anderson Ridge Road in 1993. Developed by the Metropolitan Soccer Association (MeSA), MeSA is the largest privately funded soccer complex in the Southeast. An Official dedication was held in the fall of 1995 with Pele, the world’s greatest soccer player, as the guest of honor. Ten fields (with two more in the planning stages) are being used for team practices, Recreational, Palmetto, Premier and Statewide League games. The Club has also provided lighting at some Greenville County fields to insure adequate playing and practice facilities for Club players. In case of inclement weather you can call 288-0980 to check if the fields are open or closed. We will attempt to update the website with this information as well.
Directions to MeSA from I-85 Exit 54 (Pelham Road):
Founded in 1978 by Englishman Stewart Gamble, the St. Giles Soccer Club (SGSC) has grown from its original ninety members to become the largest coed youth soccer club in the Upstate. SGSC utilizes fields at MeSA (Metropolitan Soccer Association) Complex, St. Giles Presbyterian Church and Greenville County Parks. Club players are easily recognized throughout the Southeastern region by their red and white uniforms. In 2001 St. Giles Soccer Club merged with UGSA (Upstate Girls Soccer Association) and changed our name to St. Giles United Soccer Club (SGU). Today, SGU offers over 1,200 members a full range of opportunities including girls' and boys' recreational and classic teams, leagues and tournament play, coaches/players' clinics and camps. For additional information at SGU please contact any member of our Board which are listed on this page. St. Giles United Soccer Club is supported by a large volunteer base and a 13 member volunteer Board. In 1992, Pearse Tormey was named to the full-time position of Executive Director of Coaching and Administration, overseeing the entire program with the assistance of the SGU Board of Directors and Coaches Board. As a native of Ireland, he represented his country at all levels of youth play. A graduate of Clemson University, Pearse was a member of the 1987 Clemson National Championship Team and finished his college career with over 40 goals and 40 assists. While playing for the Tigers, he was twice named All-American and was named to the All-ACC Team in 1988 - 1990. Pearse holds a USSF "A" license and has experience as a club and high school coach, tournament and camp director. Pearse played professional soccer with the Charleston Battery, Carolina Shamrocks and Greenville Lions. He is also a member of the South Carolina ODP coaching staff. In 2002 we opened a permanent office and hired Karen Osorio as our Office Administrator. In 2003 we hired David Minihan as our Director of Player Development. David (better known as "Mina") coaches a number of our Classic teams and is responsible for teaching and training our players the rules, regulations, skills and sportsmanship needed to play soccer. Other responsibilities include insuring that all St. Giles United trainers are made reasonably available to St. Giles United players as needed to further the player development curriculum (i.e. GoalKeeper or Striker Training, etc.).
TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, age 8-19 who has a mental or physical disability. Uniroyal is the national sponsor.
